Friends,
Today was declared a day of fasting by rabbis worldwide, as an ancient Jewish way to activate atonement, reflection and prayer. My cousin, David Lau, Israel’s Chief Asheknazi Rabbi, called for this fast today, the eve of the new moon of Nisan – leading into Passover.
You likely won’t be reading my endorsement of my Ultra Orthodox relative too often, but these times call for extra solidarity and all the tools we’ve got. My tools for today?
+This beautiful music vid recorded by our friend Dvir with a traditional prayer for all gates to open.
+ Tonight’s teaching on deconstructing anti-plague amulets which I’m leading tonight.
+ Also tonight Rabbi Emily helps lead a circle for mourners –which you too can join if in need of support, just email Emily.
However you are rising to these challenging times – please know that we’re here for you and with you – to nourish our souls, tap into wisdom, and lean into this – together.
Head to our calendar for what we’ve got going on today, tomorrow, and ahead.
These past few days we’ve had deeply moving rituals for all ages with hundreds of you joining, from our first ever Online Sabbath Queen to last night’s All Hands/Hearts Partnerhood Meeting to upgrade our community organizing and launch a phone tree for weekly Partner check-ins.
To access all the support Lab/Shul can provide at this time, and to support us in doing so, we ask that you join us now as a Digital Partner and be part of this community as we lean in for one another.
For those in our community challenged by physical and mental health at this time, and for those in mourning – you are not alone, we are here as needed. Please reach out at any time to us for practical and pastoral support at hello@labshul.org.
With love and strength,
Rabbi Amichai & The Lab/Shul Team
