A WOVEN WEEK OF INTERDEPENDENCE

May 10-16 2024 // Iyar 2-8 5784

Join the Lab/Shul community and our partners for peace, as we mark these complex days of commemoration, celebration, and commitment to healing and hope for all the people of Israel and Palestine.

This year, as the violence and pain continues to rupture lives and relationships in the Middle East and all over the world, we gather in NYC + online, weaving our different voices with respect and love, as we weave multiple strands and narratives into a single tapestry of trust, resilience, support, and solidarity. Our stories are intertwined and only together we can forge a kinder future.

Join us to stand together for a better future of interdependence, safety and justice for all.

Weaving a Talmudic tale with the weekly Torah portion of Kedoshim, Rabbi @amichailaulavie at Lab/Shul’s Sabbath Queen called on us to prepare for the week that marks both Israel’s birth and the Palestinian exile, as we stand together in solidarity, for peace, protest with passion and respect, and dare to love harder. It’s messy, and complicated, and it’s on us.

“It’s on us to co-create the peace we want”…Rabbi @amichailaulavie closed last night’s ‘Make a Wish’ gathering to mark Israel’s birthday (and his) with new words for an old prayer, calling on all of us to be partners in peace, everywhere, for everyone.

Together with our ritual team leader @shirakline and with highlights from @imiari’s one/man show “In-Between” wrestling with his Israeli-Palestinian identity, produced by @dirtylaundrytheatre Dirty Laundry, it was a beautiful evening and a moving way to mark this moment, this transition, and this persistent hope for peace, shalom, salaam.

As part of our Week of Woven Interdependence, we invite you to join us for a Joint Nakba Remembrance Ceremony to commemorate the pain and tragedy of the Nakba (“catastrophe” in Arabic). @combatants4peace believes that peace and reconciliation involve a sincere and honest reckoning with this history that didn’t end in 1948 but continues until this day.
We must listen with empathy to each other’s stories and acknowledge injustice to achieve true liberation. This ceremony is intended to carry the audience—Israelis, Palestinians, and internationals—to past traumas and their lingering legacies, then to the present, in order to build a just, peaceful, and equitable future.”

Specifically this year, the ceremony will center around the theme of “liberation”:
How do we liberate ourselves from occupation, oppression, and violence?
What does liberation look like and how do we begin to heal from our past and present trauma?

🗓️Nakba Remembrance Ceremony: May 15th | 1:00pm EST

“Words will help us name the hurt and hopes, and lead the way to our deeds and actions. This is how we build a better world even when our dreams are as tired as our wishes”…
