Welcome to Lab/Shul, an artist-driven, everybody-friendly, God-optional, pop up, experimental community for sacred Jewish gatherings based in NYC and reaching the world.

Our Programs

Lab/Shul, now entering its second year, offer programs year round, with something for everyone. We’re a lab –  still trying out different programs, locations and timings – for different populations.

Monthly Shabbat Mornings are family-friendly musical worship events with Storahtelling-style adult learning, kids programs, and nosh. Led by Amichai and the Lab/Shul Ritual Team.

Free and everybody friendly!

“Sabbath Queen: Her Majesty’s Service” – Friday night worship events featuring live music, poetry, open bar, tapas, and quiet contemplation. Led by Amichai, the Lab/Shul Ritual Team and guest musicians from around the world.

Free and everybody friendly!

Meet old and new friends, shake it up, unplug & recharge at our monthly ritual lab welcoming the Sabbath Queen into our lives. Popping up at an unconventional space near you.

Shared Shabbat meals on Friday nights at homes of Lab/Shul friends – open to other Lab/Shul friends from the same zipcode or demographic. We provide print-it-yourself placemats with liturgy and inspiring topics for conversation – you all bring the food, wine and spirit.

Celebrating special days and nights throughout the year. Unscroll, Light Up, Mask, Ask, Fast and more.
Then of course are the High Holy Days:  Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Raising the Bar is Lab/Shul’s unique program serving the needs of families embarking on a B Mitzvah journey. Using Storahtelling’s Maven Method™, a creative curriculum that fuses Judaic study and performance technique, the B’nai Mitzvah teens, their families and communities experience deeper engagement with the preparation, celebration and outcome of this central rite of passage.
