About Rabbi Emily Cohen

Rabbi Emily Cohen is a San Francisco-rooted, East Coast-raised, Twin Cities-educated graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia. Her relatively complex geographic history informs her approach to the rabbinate: connecting people to something or someone that deepens their experience of existence. An artist and educator, her professional experience ranges from corralling preschoolers into baking challah to herding teenagers on wilderness treks to leading adult education classes on Judaism and Social Justice. Emily has worked with the Woodstock Jewish Congregation, Bryn Mawr College Hillel, HIAS Pennsylvania, and Stanford University Hospital, where she completed chaplaincy training. On the side, she’s crafted Passover parodies (“The Hamilton Haggadah”), produced a podcast (“Jew Too? Tales of the Mixed Multitude”) and written many a new song. Before rabbinical school, Emily worked with an NGO in rural Yunnan, China, and with AmeriCorps in Minneapolis. At Macalester College, where she completed her B.A. in History, alongside robust studies in Music and Mandarin, she was a founding member of the Multifaith Council. Emily now lives in Brooklyn and is delighted to share that it feels like home.
