Dear Lab/Shul Friends,
How do we heal a broken world? Hand in hand, one circle at a time.
Two nights ago, as the sun was setting on the saddest day of our calendar, over forty of us sat in a circle on a lawn overlooking the Hudson river, reflecting on the wailing walls of Israel and why that wailing matters to us.
We shared stories, sang, and asked big questions about our relationships with Israel – the state, the land, the people. We rose to stand in a circle committing to be present and helpful, to rise with love and hope, and to repair the brokenness everywhere, one circle at a time.
From the last fast day of the Jewish year, we now rise to the first feast of the new year ahead, becoming, again, full circle.
I’m thrilled to invite you to join us at Becoming Full Circle: High Holy Days 5777/2017 to begin this brave new year together.
Stay tuned for additional events throughout the High Holy Season, including my forty day PREPENT blog launching August 23rd and special interfaith celebrations marking the rare convergence of both Muslim and Jewish New Year celebrations.
Hand in hand, one circle at a time, we rise.
Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie
