Lab/Shul’s Sabbath Queen
Monthly Ritual

Happy Hour @ 6pm EST+ Ritual @ 7pm EST + Community Feast @ 8:30pm EST
Manhattan* and Online

Join us for our monthly ritual Sabbath circle of live musical liturgy, poetic and contemplative offerings along with great conversation. Led by the Lab/Shul Ritual Team and beloved collaborators, artists, teachers, healers, and musicians, our season of 2024-25 / 5785 Sabbath Queens will take place in person in the West Village and in Carroll Gardens Brooklyn, as well as online.

Sowing seeds of trust and connection, December’s Shabbat gathering on 12/6 will be like a somatic shamash (the helper candle of your Hanukkah Menorah), lighting the way into this season of gratitude and care. Deep story, deep song, deep art, Sabbath Queen is our monthly ancestral tool for spiritual resilience and joy.

Weaved throughout this month’s special ritual will be an installation of What Happens on Retreat, an original theatrical work by Lab/Shul Associate Clergy Ben Freeman, created as part of his current LABA fellowship. We are also thrilled to welcome the teens from our Raising the Bar BMitzvah program for special pre-Shabbat ritual activities and communal dinner.

Following the ritual, we will feast on delicious cuisine from WESTVILLE – where something for everyone, every meal, every day. Chef Liz Alpern (Co-founder of Gefilteria and dear friend of Lab/Shul) recommends you bring a bottle of full bodied cabernet sauvignon to complement the locally-catered feast.

We are committed to making the Sabbath Queen Community Feast accessible. To support this commitment, we have devised a sliding scale reflective of the cost of ingredients and labor.

$35 – Angel assisted pricing for artists, educators, seniors and those who really need it
$45 – Covers the cost of one Shabbat dinner
$55 – Helps to subsidize a Shabbat dinner for someone else
