Beloved Lab/Shul Family and Friends,

“May the year end with all its challenges, and may this year begin with all blessings.”

In the Yemenite Jewish tradition, the oldest person alive at the synagogue stands up at the eve of Rosh Hashanah to sing these words from the 16th century hymn “Little Sister.” We learnt of this moving ritual last year when Dvir Cohen Eraki joined us on stage at the Hammerstein Ballroom to begin 5780 by sharing his heritage, and singing this hymn. A year has passed with challenges and blessings.

This new year he joins us via Zoom with a fantastic new music video of this hymn, filmed in Israel, in partnership with our friends at Asylum Arts. We are thrilled to share it with you ahead of the holiday as one of our gifts to the community for a better new year.
