Greetings from the great Temple of Esther!! đ„ł
Stuart B Meyers here, Brooklyn-based artist & Creative Producer of this yearâs prophetic, phantasmagorical, and powerful Purim performance-party at House of Yes in Brooklyn, NYC. (weâre baaack!! đ). In collaboration with the genius Lab/Shul team, I have had the absolute pleasure of building an event that wonât only be entertaining and BIG FUN, but will also be deeply meaningful, even profound.
This year, weâre celebrating Purim from the crown alllllll the way down, plunging into the lower depths to discover our own true divineđ. Weâre taking our journey straight to the root, honoring our classic queen and her cosmic Sumerian forebear, Ishtarđ. Our Purim extravaganza, is an invitation to embody Ishtarâs (or Estherâs) famous descent into the Underworld. How do we get there? Through 7 metaphorical gates of body & soul guided by Lab/Shul performers, ritualists and guest artists of the highest virtue. With extravagant performances, overflowing libations, necessary nibbles and a TASK-party to boot, this is gonna be one netherworld-licious Purim experienceđ So fasten your seatbelts kids, itâs gonna be a TRIP! đ
Program Schedule:
6:30pm â DOORS + TEMPLE RITES
Enter the liminal zone of transformation to sip libations, get glittery, get weird, and let go of the outside world. The ritual begins as soon as you cross the threshold into the Temple of Esther.
7:30pm â SHOW SHOW SHOW!
10:00pm – HOY DANCE PARTY – Night of 1,000 FacesÂ
Unexpected performances and radical rituals will be offered by some of your favorite Lab/Shulers including Maryam Chishti, Ben Freeman, Sam Hipschman, Stephanie Kane, Shira Kline, Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie, Ali Levin, Naomi Less, Ari Monts, Stephen Silva and Sarah Sokolic.
AND, we are thrilled to welcome six spectacular guest artists featured below. Scroll down to meet them!
See you soon, bedazzled and ready to be the light,
Stuart B Meyers
Creative Producer of Purim & Ester-ite Extraordinaire đ
PS- Donât know about Ishtar or her descent into the Underworld? No problem! You can read a textual translation of the story and/or hang with this source sheet (itâs super queer and we love that) to come in more prepared and READY for our mystical journey âš
