LAB/SHUL COMMUNITY RETREAT: Fri. Dec 6-Sat. Dec 7, Downtown NYC
We are thrilled to invite the entire Lab/Shul community for our 2024 Community Retreat in NYC!This multi-generational Shabbaton will include Shabbat rituals, as well as artist-driven programming for the heart, mind and soul. Community members of all ages will have the opportunity to connect with old friends and make new ones; engage in moments of learning, ritual and courageous conversation; immerse in art, theater, music and much, much more.
We are especially excited to share an excerpt from What Happens on Retreat, an original theatrical work by Lab/Shul Associate Clergy Ben Freeman, created as part of his current LABA fellowship. Additionally, we are excited to present a contemporary adaptation of Becoming Israel, Lab/Shul’s original play that intertwines Jewish texts with modern narratives to offer a nuanced exploration of Israel’s history and ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Both works draw inspiration from the biblical story of Jacob wrestling with a mysterious figure through the night, leading to his transformation into “Israel”.
