Dear Lab/Shul,

With the High Holy Days behind us, and the conflict in Israel, Gaza, and the wider Middle East escalating – plus election anxiety at an all time high – you may be craving sacred space to breathe, hope, and be together in community.

This Friday we are kicking off 5785 with the return of our Monthly Sabbath Queen back in Brooklyn. Rabbi Amichai, Shira, Naomi and Ben will co-lead our ritual, welcoming our newest partners, familiar friends, and celebrating our 5785 High Holy Days volunteers. We will co-create containers to celebrate our democratic process, exhale some anxieties and share suggestions and invitations for how to better handle the days before and after the election.

We are also thrilled to try out a new concept – based on our year-long theme – Face to Face/Forever Now.

We are partnering with UJA – Federation of NY’s “Shabbat of Welcome”- bringing Shabbat to a broad range of unaffiliated Jews, interfaith families, young adults, and those exploring their Jewish identity with a desire for more communal solidarity.

Join us around the Sabbath Queen’s table for a catered feast, featuring OUR BRAND NEW DIY CONVERSATION GUIDE, helping us have face-to-face dialogues on what’s going on and how we can be better at seeing and honoring each other.

Want to help new Americans feel loved and be warm this winter?

Our Refugee Task Force invites you to bring gently-used coats, boots, and other winter clothing to this Sabbath Queen or drop off at The Little Shop of Kindness 745 First Avenue (between 90th and 91st Streets) for the “Coats for Kindness” drive. This is the first of several communal efforts this new year to support this fantastic grassroots effort.

As always, Sabbath Queen opens with Happy Hour and ends with a pescatarian Community Feast, catered by Westville

Come for the Sabbath Queen, stay for the glow.

Sabbath Queen Says: Pause for Peace. Go Vote! We’ve Got This.

With love,
The Lab/Shul Team
