Welcome to Lab/Shul, an artist-driven, everybody-friendly, God-optional, pop up, experimental community for sacred Jewish gatherings based in NYC and reaching the world.

Sacred Huts and Hearts: October @ Lab/Shul

Dear Lab/Shul,

Tonight we enter Succot, finding shelter under temporary green roofs to conclude this season of holy days. Some of the leftover flowers from our High Holy Days in Tribeca will decorate my succah, along with the melodies we’ll sing and beautiful artwork created by the kids.

With all the joy and gratitude, 5778 has begun with a heart heavy from the horrendous violence and bloodshed in Las Vegas. This is the first of many challenges to the heartfelt motivation to be good and do better that so many of us walked away with from the High Holy Days. But it is also a motivator to rise up, and rise together for healing – and for justice and change, in our lives, this country and this world.

Thank you to over 2,500 of you, in NYC and around the world, who joined us this High Holy season. There were lots of firsts: Zen and Jewish night of forgiveness, soap bubble Tashilch in the park, David Broza leading Avinu Malkenu, a public all-faith ritual rally on Yom Kippur at City Hall, brand new Storahtelling mavens, and so much more.
