As Ramadan ends this week, tensions and violence in Jerusalem-El Kuds rise again and the pain transcends attempts for peace and co-existence. But hope persists, prayers join actions and courage to move beyond the pain, and build bridges of repair.
Today is Jerusalem Day, commemorating the day in 1967 when East and West Jerusalem came under Israeli sovereignty. For many lovers of Zion this is a day of pride and joy, for many lovers of Palestine this is a day of woe. Flags and stones, protest and prayers mix with wounds and hurt, with needless shows of power where there is room for us all to hear each other – to share the sacred land, heal the ancient hurts, rise above the fear.
On this day I share, in tears, with prayers for the day to end with no more sacrifices on Jerusalem’s ancient altars of devotion and dread – this powerful healing prayer, originally in Hebrew, now in Arabic and Hebrew, co-created by Yair Levi and Carine Bassili. Divine Source: Heal us All.
We are all different – we are all one, we are not alone in our demand for coming together to get over the history of bad blood and open up the gates of hope for healing, justice, dignity, equity, repair and rising higher. Jerusalem – we pray with you. Inshallah. Ken Yehi Razton. Let it be.
