Welcome to Lab/Shul, an artist-driven, everybody-friendly, God-optional, pop up, experimental community for sacred Jewish gatherings based in NYC and reaching the world.

What do the Pope and Lab/Shul have in common?

Fabulous outfits, of course, and the fact that we’ll both be talking about climate change and social equality next weekend. Join us the day of Yom Kippur for At-One-Ment: An Interfaith Prayer for Peace, featuring Peter Yarrow, Deacon Marcia Fingal (Intersections International), Peter Pitzele (Bibliodrama), Stosh Cotler (Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice), Rev. Robert Chodo Campbell and Rev. Dr. Koshin Paley Ellison (New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care), and more to be announced soon.

Our annual interfaith prayer for peace is celebrated on the afternoon of the Day of Atonement, bringing together spiritual leaders, activists, and artists of many faiths to share their visions, sacred songs, and prayers. Together we will pray for compassion, reconciliation, collaboration, and peace on earth.

Prophetic, poetic, and papal – this year’s interfaith celebration coincides with Pope Francis’ historic visit to New York and so will honor his bold vision for climate change and social equality. Our ritual will include selections from Pope Francis’ new Encylical ‘Blessed Be,’ interpreted and commented on by our featured guests and you, our community.

What can we all stand for, together? How will we commit this new year to protecting our common home?

Guests are invited to join us for the Neila closing worship event that follows the Interfaith Prayer for Peace.
